The last few months have been a blur. After being away from home for four months due to an unexpected bathroom leak, we finally moved back in just as the holiday season hit its stride. To say it’s been chaotic would be an understatement. Boxes are still scattered around, decorations are half-up, and let’s not even talk about my Christmas shopping list—or lack thereof. But somehow, amidst the hustle and unpacking, there’s a comforting feeling of being home just in time to celebrate.
Our first priority was making the house feel like ours again. The living room became our haven, and with a fresh garland draped across the mantle and the twinkling lights of a stunning artificial tree (like those offered by Balsam Hill), it started to feel like Christmas. These small touches reminded me that it doesn’t take much to create a sense of warmth and joy, even when life feels a little upside down.
And then, reality hit. It was December 17th, and I realized I hadn’t bought a single gift. Normally, I’m ahead of the game, but this year? Life had other plans. So, I turned to some tried-and-true options that always seem to work. For the DIY enthusiasts in our family, the DEWALT Power Tool Combo Kit caught my eye. The Blink Outdoor Smart Security Camera seemed like the perfect gift for peace of mind, and the Ooni Karu Pizza Oven is a great gift too! I almost got it last year but ended up going with the Solo Stove Pizza Oven instead—it just seemed like a great fit for our family. And of course, who wouldn’t appreciate the versatility of the Little Giant ladder? I gave it to Skott last Christmas, and it’s already been a game-changer for so many projects around the house. With these practical and thoughtful gifts, I was able to check off my list much faster than I thought!
As I sit down to write this, the house smells like fresh pine (thanks to a trusty candle), the lights on the tree are twinkling, and I’m sipping some hot cocoa while eyeing the tiny stack of gifts that still need wrapping. Moving back home has reminded me of what really matters. It’s not about having everything perfectly wrapped (though I will try—because let’s be honest, I can’t handle the thought of just tossing them in gift bags and calling it good) or the most elaborate decorations. It’s about finding joy in the mess, making memories in the chaos, and embracing the little moments that make the season feel special. Somehow, it all comes together anyway.
So, if you’re feeling behind this year, know that you’re not alone. Lean into the simplicity of what makes this season magical: time with loved ones, thoughtful gestures, and a little creativity to make it all come together. From our freshly {alomst} settled home to yours, here’s wishing you a holiday season full of love, laughter, and maybe just a little last-minute magic.
